3rd Annual Key West Music Awards
On March 18th 2024 the Key West Theater will host the third annual Key West Music Awards, The Iggies. As this is my brain child, I am extremely proud of the event and the people that make it possible. This year, the outlook looks to be even better. As this is a work in progress, we have added some categories and tweaked a few things. Support from the community has added momentum to the project and people want to become involved.
The KWMA is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization with three purposes in mind: To help children in our community have access to anything musical they need to help in their development; To help musicians in our community when life makes it hard for them to play the music; And to aid organizations in our community that do the same. All proceeds go towards these efforts.
This year we are proud to be working with the Bahama Village Music Program. The Bahama Village Music Program is now in their 21st year of bringing free musical education and instruction, to children aged 6 to 16 in our community. BVMP is more than just an educational institution, our program creates a great sense of community spirit and pride, fosters important mentor relationships between local teenage musicians and their students, encourages parent participation, and enhances student’s self-esteem. Our target community, Bahama Village, is rich in cultural history and community involvement, inspiring our students to become not only better musicians, but also better human beings. The way the nomination process works is all spelled out on the website, as are the criteria for every category, and all other information regarding the process. Here is a quick overview:
The nomination form is available on the website www.Keywestmusicawards.com. Nominations are open to everyone. The criteria for each category is available on the criteria page of the website. A valid email is required for every nomination form. From these forms the top three nominees in each category will be named. These names will then be submitted to a panel of seven judges. These judges will then make their selections and the winners determined. In the case of a stalemate, a new selection will be made from the three nominees involved. Though popularity is an important factor in the selection process, it is not the most important factor. The deciding factor is the panel of seven judges. They utilize the criteria for each category and select the winner without knowledge of the outcome or each other’s identities until the night of the event. The Awards Show is March 18 at the Key West Theater. We have several different levels of sponsorship for those interested in helping and perhaps reserving a table at the event, information is available on our website.
